The Timeframes Photo Images - A Lifetime of Photographic Discovery from one of Australia's Leading Artists
Many of the prints featured in the Timeframes project are Scott Universita originals, shot by the artist himself during his travels around Sydney and Melbourne. Images for the project have been hand-selected from Universita’s personal library. They’re complemented with spectacular imagery from local government libraries, most notably the State Library of Victoria. Here, Universita invested time in discovering and salvaging long-forgotten pictures from the two cities’ rich and diverse histories.
Classic images of instantly recognisable and much-loved cityscapes, local architecture, natural sites, and historic buildings are selected. These include Melbourne’s Collins Street, as well as the North Sydney Olympic Swimming Pool, the Shelley Beach jetty at Portsea, and, of course, the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge. Universita then puts a unique industrial-chic twist on history, with his unique metal picture framing methods.
The images are housed in metal frames made from either copper or Corten iron. These have been handcrafted in a range of different sizes to accommodate everything from the classic 8x10 inch print and 2 medium formats, to 6x12 cm large format film types, as well as traditional, vintage panorama formats.
The Timeframes Process - The Artist Evokes a Time in History Through Well-Honed Skills in both Photographic Filtering and Custom Designed Metal and Glass Frame Creation
Every image in the Timeframes collection is treated with a unique filter to produce a one-of-a-kind timeless snapshot, perfectly preserving a precious moment in time in the history of these two major Australian cities. The Melbourne and Sydney picture frames are handmade, with no two metal photo frames being alike. Every single frame produced as part of the Timeframes project is unique to the buyer.
The process is complex, with Universita using both copper and glass elements to impart an industrial-style, distressed effect through the use of a patina treatment. The patina is a characteristic that occurs as a direct result of oxidation. When exposed to the air, the metal frames undergo a natural chemical reaction that enhances over time. This means that every copper frame will age differently, and provides buyers with complete peace of mind that their own Timeframe is 100% unique to them.
The entire process – from crafting the handmade frames to applying the custom designed, artistic patina treatments – takes place exclusively in the Timeframe Studio. Located on the Mornington Peninsula, the well-equipped Melbourne photography studio enables Universita to manage all aspects of the project in-house. This offers a true end-to-end experience for his clients. This also provides Universita with the unique opportunity to oversee all aspects of the project himself. There’s no need to outsource any tasks, so consistent quality and service are ensured, right through from initial consultation to delivery.
